As I said earlier, most magicians have probably never heard of most of these sleights. And they are not "off the beaten path" either. But think about this for a moment: those methods worked 50 years ago, so why wouldn't they work today? The methods included here are not inferior, just older, and might require more skill. The methods employed might be a little dated, so feel free to substitute your favorite methods whenever you want. The card experiments at the back are routines that utilize some of the sleights. The sleights section takes up most of the book, and it might take you years to go through and study each one.

It is divided into two sections: sleights and experiments. The book has crystal clear pictures, not drawings, of Buckley's hands, which helps a lot.

It is not the easiest book to read, but trying to "read between the lines" is a challenge I enjoy. The write up is a little confusing, but I just experimented and came up with the right "touch" that Buckley refers to. Actually, I learned the Vernon Multiple shift from this book. How about the one handed Domico Double Lift, a beautiful sleight that requires lots of work but worth it i think. I have never heard or seen anyone try it, so I guarantee it will fool anybody. This information then leaked into the wider magic community via Arthur Buckley (Card Control) and Bruce. For example, try Buckley's Multiple Shift. Dai Vernon said he learned it from a Mexican gambler. You can fool well versed magicians with some of the moves in here because it really is an overlooked book. It literally has a ton of sleights, some more valuable than others, but I think you can learn from all of them. I find myself going back to it a few times a year for sources of inspiration.

Buckley's book is not full of "controls" per se, but Andrus's book is.īuckley's classic book is my favorite "oldy". Don't get confused between the Andrus Card Control book and the Buckley Card Control Book.
